New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) Taking strong note of rise inatrocities against dalits, the National Commission forScheduled Castes (NCSC) has sought autonomy in itsfunctioning, the commission’s top official today said. "The commission has been intervening in each and everycase of atrocities against dalits. And there has been suddensurge in atrocities against dalits, therefore it is requiredthat commission should be given autonomy and independence inits functioning," NCSC chairman P L Punia said. NCSC today submitted three reports — Annual Report ofNCSC for the year 2015-16, report on the Effective Utilisationof Funds under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP)-2016, andreport on atrocities against Kuravan community in TamilNadu-2016. In these reports we have demanded that findings of thecommission should be mandatory as it is vital for actionagainst those who are responsible for atrocities againstdalits, Punia told PTI. Punia is a Congress Rajya Sabha member. He said these reports will be tabled in Parliament alongwith with the action taken report submitted by the SocialJustice Ministry. Besides this we have also recommended various measuresfor safeguards for SCs and overall economic and socialdevelopment of the community. Punia said the commission has also demanded separateallocation of funds in the Union Budget for the commission. Atpresent, the administrative ministry allocates funds to thecommission. PTI JTRRG
