Senior Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad’s controversial tweet on underworld don Chhota Rajan and United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militant and leader Anup Chetia has raised a political storm.
On Wednesday, the leader tweeted:
Thankfully Chhota Rajan&Anup Chetia(ULFA) are not Muslims. Had they been Muslims Modi govt would have a different narrative altogether.

Later, speaking on his tweet, he said:
“I have said that two anti-social people or criminals, Chhota Rajan and Anup Chetia, have been brought to India and that they are not Muslims by coincidence. If they were Muslims, the Narendra Modi-led Government at the Centre would have accused the Congress Party for playing vote bank politics.”
He said that it must be taken into account that the Indonesian Police apprehended Rajan and Anup Chetia had been rotting in the jails of Bangladesh for many years.
He stressed that the narrative would have been totally different if these two were Muslims.
In response, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra said Ahmad made a “very appalling and shameless comment”, attempting to discriminate among even terrorists on religious lines.
