Karnataka CM Backs Kiccha Sudeep’s Comments On National Language

Date:

New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday replied to the comments made by Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan. He agreed to the statement of Kiccha Sudeep, a Kanada Actor, on the “national language” row.

Kiccha Sudeep during an interview for a film trailer launch corrected a journalist and said that “Hindi is no more a national language”. After the comments, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan took to Twitter and responded by saying that “According to you if Hindi is not our national language then why do you release your mother tongue movies by dubbing them in Hindi?” He further added that “ Hindi was, is and always will be our mother tongue and national language.”

Karnataka Chief Minister backed Kiccha Sudeep’s comment and told the reporters that “What Kiccha Sudeep said is correct. A regional language is most important as a state is formed on a linguistic basis.” He further added that “everyone should understand and respect what Sudeep has said.”

However, after the comments made by Ajay Devgan, the Kannada actor responded to the tweet saying, “the context to why I said that line is entirely different to the way I guess it has reached you. Probably will emphasis on why the statement was made when I see you in person. It wasn’t to hurt, Provoke or to start any debate. Why would I sir?”

Ajay Devgan responded to the actor on Twitter and said “ You are a friend. Thanks for clearing up the misunderstanding. I’ve always thought of the film industry as one. We respect all languages and we expect everyone to respect our language as well. Perhaps, something was lost in translation.”

Kiccha Sudeep further tweeted that he understood the text which was sent by Ajay Devgan in Hindi. He says that we understand it because we have learned and respected Hindi. He further adds “No offense sir, but was wondering what’d (what would be) the situation be if my response was typed in Kannada.!! Don’t we too belong to India sir.”

Former Chief Minister Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that “Hindi was never & will never be our National Language. It is the duty of every Indian to respect (the) linguistic diversity of our Country. Each language has its own rich history for its people to be proud of.

He further added that “I am proud to be a Kannadiga!!” responding to the tweet of Ajay Devgan.
