JMC girl harassed outside college; narrates ordeal on social media

Date:

Are girls in the 21st century also, not safe? What has happened to this so-called ‘modern and cultural society’ we are living in? Only one question strike my head in some situations ‘Is this India our political leaders and freedom fighters were talking about?’

In a horrific incident which took place near Jesus and Mary College, a girl from the third year of the same college was walking towards her car in the car parking after finishing her classes at 3:45 PM on a Friday afternoon, when a person in a car drove towards her with windows rolled down and asked her ‘India Gate kahan padega?’ as she was trying to help the man, she was in utter disgust as she saw that the guy in the car was masturbating looking at her.

She told her agony and pain in a social media post, which says:

While talking to NewsMobile,  the girl recalls that the man in the car was looking at her in a very obsessive manner and the incident happened in just 5 seconds as soon as the person realized that the girl has noticed him he zoomed off his car.

The girl says,

“After all this happened I just crossed the road and ran into my car and locked all the gates and called up my friend, after that I got home I told everything to my parents and the same evening told my college committee about the same to which the Principal said that she’ll have a committee meeting and the Chanakyapuri cops will be present at the meeting as well.”

” After posting the incident on social media three four girls stood up and messaged me that this thing happened with them also and that too outside the college only!”

After asking about if anybody came to help her, she replied:

” Nobody came for help! as nobody even noticed that something like this happened to me because this happened in a really short span of Time 5 seconds.”

Also on asking that if she recalls that how the guy looks like, she said:

“He was in his middle age, he must be in his 25 or 26, with really short hair”

She also said that she has not filed a complaint yet as it’s the work of her college complaint committee, they’ll file the complaint after the meeting on Monday. At the end she just said when asked about what message she wants to give to the girls who face these problems:

“dont be afraid, as of now after raising my voice 2-3 girls raised their voices also, it’s a long, really long and tough fight ahead. it’s also a learning lesson to me that despite spending so much time in a particular area doesn’t mean that it’s totally safe, it’s totally a misconception.”

It’s time to raise your voice not suppress it! More power to girls! You go girl we all with you!
