Jammu & Kashmir: At least 35 dead, over 17 injured as matador plunges into gorge in Kishtwar

At least 35 people died and about 17 others injured after a matador carrying them fell into a gorge in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

The accident took place when the driver of the bus, which was coming from Keshwan, lost control.

The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

“33 dead and 22 injured after a matador vehicle coming from Keshwan to Kishtwar fell into a gorge, today”, Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana said.

Former J&K CM Omar Abdullah tweeted condolences to the families of the deceased.

“Terrible news coming in about the high death toll in a bus accident in Kishtwar. Condolences to the families of the deceased & prayers for the swift recovery of the injured.”, he tweeted.

Home Minister Amit Shah extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the mishap.

“Extremely saddened to learn about the loss of lives due to a road accident in Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones. I pray of the speedy recovery of those injured.”, he tweeted.
