ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Sets Record With 1.25 Million Spectators

Date:

New Delhi: The 2023 Cricket World Cup has indeed become one of the most significant ICC events in cricket history. The 13th edition concluded with Australia securing their sixth title by defeating hosts India. According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), a record-breaking 1.25 million fans attended the matches, surpassing the previous record set in 2015.

During the initial matches excluding India, many seats were vacant in the stadiums, but the total spectator count had already surpassed one million with six games still to be played.

Chris Tetley, the Head of Events at the International Cricket Council (ICC), described the one-day international (ODI) tournament as a “great success.”

“The staggering attendance demonstrates the enduring appeal of cricket and excitement the ODI format continues to offer,” Tetley said in a statement, adding that the tournament also broke various records in broadcast and digital viewership.

“It has been an event that has not only entertained but also united cricket fans globally in a celebration of the sport.”

The final match drew over 100,000 spectators, predominantly clad in blue to show their support for the Indian team. Despite the fervent crowd backing, the outcome of the game remained unaffected, as Australia claimed victory with a 6-wicket margin.
