HM Amit Shah interacts with doctors, assures security amid attacks on them

Date:

Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday interacted with doctors from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) via video-conference and assured them of their safety.

He appreciated their good work and appealed to them to withdraw the symbolic protest they had proposed to counter the violence against doctors.

The IMA had said on Monday it will observe a ‘Black Day’ on April 23 if the government does not enact a central law on violence against healthcare workers who are on the frontline in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the meeting, the IMA, in a statement said that they have withdrawn their protest.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan was also present in the meeting. “The way our doctors are performing their duties in these testing times is exceptional. I urge every Indian to cooperate with doctors in this fight against COVID-19,” Shah tweeted after the meeting.
