Fake quote attributed to Malala Yousafzai’s teacher goes viral

A picture post has been going viral on social media with a quote attributed to a woman named Fatima Questeshi.

” हमारे इस्लाम में औरतों को बच्चे पैदा करने वाला खेत समझा जाता है हम सब मुस्लिम औरते मुस्लिम धर्म छोडक़त हिन्दू बन जाएं गई और हिन्दू लड़को के साथ शादी कर गी। फिर ना तलाक ना हलाल का डर जय श्री राम ( फातिमा कुरेशी , मुम्बई)” the text read .

( Translation – In our Islam, women are considered to be a child- producing farm. All the Muslims women will abandon the Muslim religion and convert to Hinduism and marry Hindu boys. Then there will be no Fear of divorce nor halal. Jai Shri Ram (Fatima Qureshi, Mumbai)

At the time of filing the report, the above post had around 9,700 shares.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the post, we found it to be fake.

On Putting the picture through a Reverse Image Search tool, we found a post on Yandex that featured the same woman.

The report published by on the site of Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report on 20 September 2013 states that the woman is Mariam Khalique, teacher of Malala Yousafzai. The picture was taken at an event in New York where Mariam was talking on Eduction for girls.

The caption on the picture read, ‘Mariam giving her speech at the EFA Report event in New York. Photo: Rick Bajornas.’

The same article was also published on the website of the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative.

We also found the video on the United Nation’s official YouTube channel.

Moreover, we did not find any record of the statement in the viral post.

Hence, the above information proves that the viral post is FAKE.
