Failing to convince mob, DSP shoots himself in Punjab

A Deputy Superintendent of Punjab Police shot himself in the head at Jaitu town of Punjab, reportedly after he failed to convince a mob of students to call off stir. The students were protesting against police’s moral policing at University College, Jaitu.

The incident happened at Jaitu, 35km from Faridkot, on Monday. A video of the incident is being widely circulated on Whatsapp groups wherein DSP Baljinder Singh Sandhu, 50, can be seen pointing the pistol onto his right temple and pressing the trigger. Sandhu died on the spot.

As per reports, the DSP was at the University College, where students had gathered to protest a recent incident of moral policing. The students were raising slogans against the police and DSP Sandhu warned them against doing so. As the students refused to relent, DSP Sandhu took out his pistol, placed it on his temple and pulled the trigger.

A cop, who was injured in the incident, has reportedly been hospitalised in Faridkot.
