Delhi Air Pollution: GRAP Stage 4 Invoked in NCR With ‘Immediate Effect’

Date:

New Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has decided to implement Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the entire National Capital Region (NCR) with immediate effect. This comes in addition to all measures prescribed under Stages I, II, and III, aiming to curb further deterioration of air quality in the region.

With immediate effect, a comprehensive 8-point strategy detailed in Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) will be implemented across the entirety of the National Capital Region (NCR). This strategy encompasses measures like discontinuing the entry of truck traffic into Delhi, except for those transporting essential commodities or offering essential services, and allowing exclusively LNG/CNG/electric trucks.

Under GRAP Stage IV restrictions, there is a prohibition on the operation of diesel-operated Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs) and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) registered in Delhi, except those involved in transporting essential commodities or providing essential services. Additionally, NCR State Governments and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) have the authority to decide on discontinuing physical classes for grades VI-IX and class XI, opting for online lessons.

Decisions on allowing public, municipal, and private offices to operate at 50% capacity, with the remaining staff working remotely, are left to the discretion of NCR State Governments and GNCTD.

Morever, state governments are encouraged to contemplate additional emergency measures such as the closure of colleges/educational institutions, non-essential commercial activities, and the potential implementation of an odd-even scheme for vehicle registration numbers.
