Civil Aviation Ministry gives nod for four Greenfield Airports

Date:

New Delhi: If all goes well, there will be four new greenfield airports as the Civil Aviation Ministry has given its clearance. The three airports will be located in Andhra Pradesh and one international airport at Dholera, Gujarat.

Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Nayan Choubey said the international airport at Dholera is expected to reduce the air traffic load at the existing Ahmedabad airport.

The Environment Ministry has already given environmental clearance to the Rs. 1,378 crore airport project at Dholera last year.

Choubey added that the site clearance, which is the first clearance, was given for the Bhogapuram airport in Andhra Pradesh which is about 40 kilometres from Visakhapatnam.

The Ministry has also given its go-ahead for development of a greenfield airport in Nellore and Kurnool districts under a public-private partnership.

A greenfield airport is a new airport which is constructed on an undeveloped site.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamsabad near Hyderabad and Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru are greenfield airports.
