Chennai Super Kings pull off a ‘whistle podu’ performance

Date:

In a match that saw a swinging of fortunes, CSK’s boys were the last ones standing as their team pulled off a 7 wicket win over Mumbai Indians on Friday.

Chasing MI’s 141, Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith started off with a bang. They quickly raced to 37/0 in 5 overs. But in the 7th over, Smith edged one off Ojha and departed for 29. This brought Raina into the middle, but he too walked back deceived by Harbhajan Singh for 1.

Faf du Plessis join McCullum in the middle and the dup took the scorecard to 95/2 in 13 overs. McCullum reached his half century and just like when it was looking threatening for MI, Harbhajan gave them the breakthrough they were looking for. Du Plessis was removed for 20. Dhoni joined McCullum in the middle and the duo drove the team home with 6 balls to spare.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. Michael Hussey and Aditya Tare opened the innings for their side, but it soon hit the wall when Hussey was removed in the second over by Hilfenhaus for 1. Corey Anderson, the next man in and Tare took MI to 25/1 in 4 overs, but Tare departed in the 5th over, falling to Mohit Sharma for 23. This brought Rohit Sharma to the middle and the duo stitched a partnership that took MI to 108/2 in 15 overs.

In the 16th over, however, Anderson departed falling to Mohit Sharma for 39. Rohit Sharma crossed his half century, but was removed immediately after by Hilfenhaus in the 18th over. Pollard and came together for a guest appearance. The 19th over was perhaps the most fruitful one for CSK as Mohit Sharma came with a triple blow, dismissing Rayudu 1(2), Pollard 12(11), Harbhajan 0(2). CM Gautam and Zaheer Khan took the MI total to 141/7.
