CBI Team To Investigate Killing Of Two Students In Imphal

Date:

New Delhi: A team led by Special Director Ajay Bhatnagar from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is scheduled to arrive in Imphal on Wednesday to investigate the ‘abduction and murder’ case involving two missing students on July 6 in the conflict-ridden state of Manipur.

In addition to the team of officials headed by Bhatnagar, the case will be investigated by Joint Director Ghanshyam Upadhyay, who is stationed in Imphal, as per sources. The team will consist of officers with specialized skills in handling special crimes, reconstructing crime scenes, conducting interrogations, and utilizing technical surveillance methods. The team will also have experts from the Central Bureau of Investigation’s Central Forensic Science Laboratory.

The Manipur government had earlier said that they had transferred the murder case of two young students to the CBI while security forces had launched a search operation to apprehend those responsible.

Earlier, on Tuesday, hundreds of students gathered on the streets in response to the viral circulation of images showing the bodies of two students who had been reported missing.

Seventeen-year-old female student Hijam Linthoingambi and 20-year-old Phijam Hemjit went missing on July 6 amidst the peak of ethnic violence in Manipur.
