Kolkata: Amid the widespread protest and reports of violence from parts of West Bengal over the remark made by Nupur Sharma on Prophet Muhamed, several petitions were filed before the Calcutta High Court on Monday demanding NIA investigation into the violent protest in the state.
According to a report by PTI, Petitioner claimed that the violent incidents across the state were affecting the national integrity of the country. A division bench was headed by Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava.
Another petition sought the deployment of the Army in the violence-hit regions. The state government representation was led by Advocate General SN Mookherjee who opposed the appeals and claimed that “apart from one incident of damage to a passenger train at Bethuadahari in Nadia district, not a single incident of violence has been reported in the last 36 hours.
He further added that more than 214 people have been arrested by the state police post the incident of violence.
