Mumbai: A Special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) court on Monday convicted extradited alleged gangster Abu Salem ‎ in the 1995 Pradeep Jain murder.‎
The special trial judge had completed the trial of Abu Salem, Mehdi Hassan and a builder Virendra Jhamb.
According to the police, gangster Abu Salem had got Jain killed over a property dispute.
Jain, a city-based builder, was shot dead outside his Juhu bungalow on March 7, 1995. Nameem Khan, an accused in the case had turned approver. ‎Riyaz Siddiqui, another accused in the case had turned approver then retracted and is being tried separately. Salem and other accused denied their role in the case.
Siddiqui who had given a detailed statement to the police, had later denied his and Salem’s roles in the killing. The prosecution had then declared him hostile.
Salem, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, was extradited from Portugal on November 11, 2005, after a prolonged legal battle and is since in judicial custody.‎
