2019 polls has helped break walls, unite people: PM Modi at NDA Parliamentary meet

Date:

In his first address, after being elected as the next Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi Saturday said the 2019 Lok Sabha elections was an exercise to unite people and break down the walls that separate people.

“2019 elections have worked towards breaking down walls and connecting hearts. In a way they had become a way to unite the society…This gave a new height to these elections. The people have started a new era and all of us are a witness to it,” he said.

The PM was also elected as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party at a meet of the victorious BJP-led alliance in the central hall of parliament on Saturday evening.

Talking about women MPs elected in the 17th Lok Sabha polls, PM Modi said, “This is for the first time in Independent India that such large number of women MPs are sitting in the Parliament. This has been made possible due to women power.”

He also said, “You all have elected me as the leader, I think of it as a part of the system, I’m one of you, equal to you.”

Senior BJP leaders LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, including newly-elected MPs, were present at the NDA parliamentary meeting.

At the meeting, Modi received huge backing by NDA leaders including SAD’s Parkash Singh Badal, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan who endorsed him as the leader of the 353 NDA MPs.

The BJP had won with a landslide victory bagging 303 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha.

Modi will now call on President Ram Nath Kovind to stake his claim to form the government. Sources say that the swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place on May 30.
