‘1 lakh people die in road accidents every year in India’

Panaji: Union Road Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari has come up with new statistics on road accidents in India.

According to Gadkari’s shocking stats, nearly five lakh road accidents take place every year in India and 1.5 lakh die in these accidents.

Talking on road accidents, Gadkari said that The Road Transport ministry is concerned over the large number of road accidents in India and was trying to minimise the accidents, he added.

Speaking at the Global Business Forum here, Gadkari said that the road sector is running fast and nearly 95 percent of the projects are on track. He added that when the NDA government came in power, 283 projects related to National Highways were stuck due to several reasons but presently all the projects are running fast.
