Delhi Decides 2020: Here are the ‘Poll Manifestos’ of the contesting parties

The three main contenders in the upcoming Delhi Legislative Assembly elections have released their manifestos. The main contenders are the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP).

Let us see what these parties are promising and what are the contents of it:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)

1. Infrastructure-

Housing- Pakka housing for all slum dwellers, basic infrastructure in all unauthorised colonies,
Electricity distribution of electricity through underground cables which will be 24/7 and free electricity up to 200 units,
Water 24 hours clean drinking water and 20,000 litres of free drinking water to be provided to houses.
Cheap Transportation- 11,000 buses to be procured and the Delhi metro line to be extended by 500 Kms.

2. Women’s safety-

A unique feature is mentioned. The party is promising to appoint Mohalla Marshals in all Mohallas across the capital city. They also hope to install more CCTV’s, improve street lighting and appoint bus marshals.

3. Social infrastructure

Education- World-class educational facilities,
Health- Affordable and better access treatment to be given to all within Delhi.

4. Environment-

Air Pollution- To reduce the pollution levels by 1/3 of the current levels in the next five years, to plant 2 crore trees to make a ‘Green Delhi’ and clean the Yamuna.
Beautification of Delhi- All the construction wastes to be cleared and Delhi made a beautiful city.

These are the main promises mentioned by the AAP in their manifesto released by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Bharatiya Janata Party

1. Governance

 Corruption free government,
 Delhi to be made a world-class city,
 Need for long term planning and not freebies and
 Colony development boards to come up.
 Improvement in the conditions of the resettlement colonies

2. Economic plan

 10 Lakh jobs to be created in the capital,
 Water in every home,
 55,000 crores to improve the road network,
 10 new colleges and 200 new schools to come up
 Implementation of PM Ayushman Bharat scheme, PM Kisan Saman scheme

3. Social welfare
 Electric cycles, motorbikes for college going girls and
 51,000 for marriage of girls belonging to the weaker sections.

4. Environment
 Focus on Fit Delhi and clean air too.

Indian National Congress

1. Infrastructure-

 The party has promised to spend Rs 35,000 crores on the regularization of unauthorized colonies,
 Procure 15,000 electric buses to improve connectivity,
 Free electricity upto 300 units.
 Subsidised transport facilities for the elderly, poor and students.

2. Economic policies-

 Yuva Swabhiman Yojana which is an unemployment allowance for the youth to be launched. Rs 5000 for unemployed graduates and Rs 7500 per month for unemployed post graduates to be given.
 Launch of the Yaari Incubation fund consisting of 5000 crores to fund start ups in the capital.

3. Pollution and Transportation

The party is promising to spend 25% of the total budget on fighting pollution and improving urban transport in the capital.

4. Resolution against CAA/NRC-

The party has promised to pass a resolution against CAA and NRC, if voted to power.

The three main political parties have addressed issues that are affecting the National Capital Territory of Delhi, but have however, failed to present a holistic development plan for the national capital. Urban India and especially Delhi needs a long-term vision plan. The BJP has said so in their manifesto, but haven’t elaborated.
