Entertainment Journalists’ Guild boycotts Kangana Ranaut, writes open letter to Ekta

The Entertainment Journalists’ Guild of India (EJGI) on Tuesday, July 9, decided to boycott actor Kangana Ranaut and wrote an open letter addressed to producer Ekta Kapoor, asking her to condemn an incident wherein the lashed out at a journalist at a promotional event for their film ‘Judgmentall Hai Kya’.

At the launch of a song from ‘Judgementall Hai Kya’ which is produced by Ekta, Kangana got into a heated argument with news agency PTI journalist Justin Rao, accusing him of bashing her previous film ‘Manikarnika’. The incident took place on July 7.

“After the song launch, in a media interaction Ms. Kangana Ranaut, who had accompanied you and Mr. Rajkummar Rao on stage, suddenly snapped at our fellow journalist, Mr Justin Rao of Press Trust of India (PTI), before he could even complete his question. This behaviour was uncalled-for,” the letter begins.

“To all the entertainment journalists a body – Entertainment Journalists Guild of India has been formed, in the light of the unfortunate incident that happened with reporter Justin Rao from PTI, on July 7 at a promotional event of ‘Judgementall Hai Kya’. The body has been formed to safeguard the interest of our fraternity and address issues that entertainment journalist face on a daily basis be it with actors or producers or PR. It is time for us to stand united to support our fellow members. Today few members of the body met Ms Ekta Kapoor at her office to demand an apology. Attached here is the letter given to Ms Kapoor,” the official statement read.

Along with it, the body also released the official letter given to Ekta Kapoor regarding the incident which took place on Sunday, July 8 during the launch of the song ‘Wakhra Swag’.

‘Judgementall Hai Kya’ starring Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao is set to release on July 26, 2019.
