One Year Since India Reported It’s First COVID-19 Case

On January 30th India completes a year since the first COVID-19 case emerged in the country, after it the virus spread from China in 2019 to different parts of the world and made it’s way into India.

Lets take a look at what has transpired in the last one year

  1. January 30th2020, India reported it’s first COVID-19 case
  2. March 2020, COVID-19 cases in India reaches close to the 500 mark
  3. March 22nd 2020, Prime Minister Modi announced a 14-hour voluntary public curfew
  4. March 23rd 2020, India goes into complete lockdown for 21 days
  5. April 18th 2020, lockdown slows the growth rate of the pandemic doubling every eight days
  6. Lockdown extends till May 31st 2020 in phases by National Disaster Management Authority
  7. Lockdown lifted in most areas expect for in containment zones where lockdown was extended till June 30th 2020
  8. June 8th 2020, unlock 1.0 begins
  9. July 1st to July 31st 2020, unlock 2.0 begins
  10. August 2020, unlock 3.0 begins
  11. September 2020, unlock 4.0 begins
  12. January 2nd 2021, first dry run of COVID-19 vaccination drive starts
  13. January 8th, 2021, second dry run of COVID-19 vaccination drive starts on January 8th
  14. January 16th 2021, nationwide inoculation drive begins
  15. January 27th 2021, government announces COVID-19 curve has flattened in India
  16. January 29th 2021, India dropped to the fourth place in deaths from the virus

India currently has produced two vaccines Covishield and Covaxin produced by Serum Institute of India,Pune(SII) and Bharat Biotech respectively and has announced more vaccines will be produced by India in coming months. While 2 crore frontline and 1 crore healthcare workers are the first to be inoculated against COVID-19 followed by elderly above the age of 50, moreso those with comorbidities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind have expressed how India has India has managed the pandemic effectively and that proper intervention during the pandemic has helped saved several lives.
