COVID-19 | Top 10 Developments In India This Saturday Morning

1. As many as 14,256 new COVID-19 cases, 17,130 discharges, and 152 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours in the country, according to the Union Health Ministry.

2. With the addition of fresh cases, the cumulative caseload has climbed to 1,06,39,684 including 1,85,662 active cases.

3. The overall recoveries have reached 10,300,838, while the death toll has mounted to 1,53,184.

4. Kerala has the highest number of active coronavirus cases – 70,624 in the country. It is followed by Maharashtra with 46,146 active cases.

5. On Friday, the Union Health Ministry said that India’s active caseload has fallen to 1.78 per cent of the total cases and the Recovery Rate has improved to 96.78 per cent.

6. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 19,09,85,119 samples had been tested for COVID-19 up to January 22, of which 8,37,095 samples were tested on Friday.

7. As many as 13,90,592 people have been vaccinated against coronavirus in India so far. The nationwide vaccination drive began on January 16.

8. Over 30,000 frontline health workers were vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Bengal yesterday, taking the total number of people who got the jab to 84,505, a senior official of the health department said. Out of the set target of 35,100 for yesterday, 30,517 received Covishield doses in 351 centres across the state during the day. (Input from PTI)

Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabhaskar, a medical doctor, received the COVID-19 vaccination yesterday. “I got vaccinated today as a member of the medical fraternity and to instil confidence among fellow healthcare personnel. I have not taken this as a minister,” Vijayabhaskar said. (Input from PTI)

10. States are likely to take a break from the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive on January 26-27, based on instruction from the Union Health Ministry, The Economic Times reported. According to the news report, the health ministry has asked states to not plan any vaccination sessions on Republic Day.
