Thirty-five years back, on this day, a star was born. The entire nation mourned his loss in June last year. It’s Sushant Singh Rajput’s birthday and the mystery surrounding his death remains unsolved.
Sushant was found dead at his Bandra apartment in Mumbai on June 14, 2020. Back to back developments, countless angles, and conspiracy theories emerged in the months that followed. However, to this day, the reason behind his death remains unknown.
Three of the top investigation agencies of the nation – Central Bureau of Investigation, Enforcement Directorate, and Narcotics Control Bureau – were roped in to conduct the probe. Several high profile celebrities were called for questioning in connection with the case, with Sushant’s girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty being the most talked-about.
About five months after taking up the investigation of Sushant’s death case, the CBI on December 30, 2020, said it was looking into all aspects of the matter and nothing had been ruled out. “The CBI is conducting the investigation in a thorough and professional manner using the latest scientific techniques. During the investigation, all aspects are being looked at and no aspect has been ruled out as on date,” the Central Bureau of Investigation said.
The agency added that all the concerned witnesses in the case have been examined.
“During the investigation, all the concerned witnesses have been examined to understand the circumstances, apprehensions raised by the complainant and his family members and other independent sources. An intensive and thorough investigation has been carried out in this regard,” the CBI said.
Sushant was found hanging at his Mumbai residence on June 14, last year. His father, KK Singh on July 25, filed an FIR at the Rajiv Nagar Police station, Patna against Rhea Chakraborty, Indrajit Chakraborty, Sandhya Chakraborty, Showik Chakraborty, Samuel Miranda and Shruti Modi.
The FIR was lodged under section 306 (abetment of suicide), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 380 (theft in dwelling house), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating & dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.
On the request of Bihar government, the CBI after getting approval from the Central government, re-registered cases against Rhea, her family members and others on August 6, 2020.
On August 19, the Supreme Court transferred the investigation from Patna Police to CBI. The CBI is still investigating the case.
What lead to Sushant’s death remains unknown. All we know is that a rising star was gone too soon and is deeply missed by his fans.
