MP Cong MLA Threatens Woman Officer On Duty, Faces Severe Backlash For Misogynistic Comments

Date:

Madhya Pradesh Congress finds itself in a soup yet again. This time over recent comments made by a party legislator to a lady officer. His misogynistic comments have drawn sever backlash from all quarters.

Just a few days after a former Madhya Pradesh minister made it to headlines, for his regressive comments on seeing no harm getting women married early since they are ready for child bearing from the age of 15 years, this sitting congress MLA from the party threatened a woman officer on duty.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Cong MLA Harsh Vijay Gehlot can be seen talking aggressively with sub-divisional magistrate Kamini Thakur.

It is clearly visible in the video that during an argument, he misbehaved with the officer. He can be heard saying, “You are a woman. Had you been a man I would have held you by the collar and then handed the memorandum to you.”

The incident took place on Sunday in Ratlam district’s Sailana, after the Congress took out a tractor rally in support of farmers protesting against the Centre’s three farm laws.
The chaos occured when MLA Gehlot reached the SDM’s office to submit a memorandum, and Kamini Thakur came out to deal with the crowd.

The MLA has been facing a lot of backlash on social media after the video went viral. Few months back, MP’s Former Chief Minister and Congress Senior Leader Kamal Nath during a rally referred to BJP MLA Imarti Devi as an ‘item’.

“Wo kya hai.. main uska naam kyun lun… aapko mujhe starak karna chahiye tha kya item hai.. (Who is she… what’s her name? You all should have warned me… what an item!),” Kamal Nath says as the crowd calls out Imarti Devi’s name.

He had to face outrage by feminists and severe condemnation from the party’s top notch.

These kinds of incidents are a reflection of the society that we are living in, if leaders and people at power present such distasteful shows of patriarchy and misogyny, we are clearly not sending the right message out for others.
