The CBI carried out raids at around 40 locations across three states, including 25 in West Bengal, in connection with a coal mafia case.
As per reports, Anup Majhi, the major accused, is based in West Bengal. The home and offices of Anup in Asansol, as well as those of his associates, are being searched.
Raids are also being conducted or expected to begin in Jharkhand and Bihar.
Besides Asansol, searches are also being conducted in Durgapur, Burdwan district, and Bishnupur in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had pointed out at a press meet that the raids being conducted by central agencies in the state were coinciding with the Union Home Minister’s visit.
Notably, these raids come just months before the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled to be held in April-May next year.
