The Ministry of Home Affairs issued fresh COVID-related guidelines for surveillance, containment and caution. The MHA has mandated states and UTs to strictly enforce containment measures, SOPs on various activities, COVID-appropriate behaviour, exercise caution and regulate crowds.

MHA’s fresh guidelines will be effective from December 1 to 31. The ministry has said that the main focus is to consolidate substantial gains achieved against COVID-19. It further added that keeping in view the recent spike in cases in few States/UTs, it is emphasised that there is need to maintain caution.

Only essential activities have been allowed in Containment Zones. Local district, police & municipal authorities shall be responsible to ensure that prescribed Containment measures are strictly followed & State Governments shall ensure accountability of concerned officers, as per the MHA.

The Ministry of Home Affairs added that States and UTs need to enforce social distancing in offices. In cities, where weekly positivity rate is over 10%, States and UTs concerned shall consider implementing staggered office timings & other measures, to ensure social distancing, as per MHA.
