Karnataka Police filed an FIR against Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut over her tweet against farmers who were protesting against the contentious farm laws which were passed by the government in the monsoon session of the parliament.
A Karnataka court directed the police to file an FIR against the actor. Kangana has been charged with promotion of enmity between groups, grave provocation, intentional insult, and other sections under the Indian Penal Code.
A court in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district on Friday directed the state police to lodge an FIR against Kangana Ranaut for her recent tweet in which she targeted farmers protesting the farm laws.
Lawyer L Ramesh Naik had filed a complaint against the actress, after which the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court directed the inspector of Kyathasandra police station to file an FIR against Kangana Ranaut who had compared the protesting farmers to terrorists in her tweets.
The petitioner had said that Kangana’s tweet had hurt his sentiments and prompted him to file a case against the actress.
On September 21, Kangana had tweeted from her Twitter handle, “People who spread misinformation and rumours about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformation about Farmers bill and causing terror in the nation, they are terrorists. You very well know what I said but simply like to spread misinformation.”
