COVID-19 LIVE | India reports 88,600 fresh COVID-19 cases, tally nears 60 lakh

With a single-day spike of 88,600 new COVID19 cases, India’s COVID-19 case count neared 60-lakh mark on Sunday.

As many as 1,124 deaths were reported in India in the last 24 hours taking the total count to 94,503, said the Union Health Ministry. As per the Ministry, the total number of coronavirus cases stands at 59,92,533 including 9,56,402 active cases, 49,41,628 cured, discharged or migrated.

 Around 7,12,57,836 samples were tested up to 26th September for COVID-19. Of these, 9,87,861 samples were tested yesterday as per Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Globally, the coronavirus caused deaths in the world crossed 9,90,000 on Saturday, according to the Johns Hopkins University. The global death toll rose to 990,738, while there were more than 32.6 million cases worldwide.

The United States remains the nation’s worst hit by the pandemic, with 7,065,019 cases and 204,249 deaths, making up more than 20 percent of the global death toll.Brazil recorded the world’s second-largest death toll of 140,537.
