Hours after being removed from the Google Play Store, Fintech major confirms its return on the play store on Friday evening. In a tweet, Paytm said that the app had made its return on the play store for its android users. The tweet read “Update: And we’re back!”

Earlier in the Friday afternoon citing policy violations, Google has taken down Paytm App from Play Store. Owned by One97 Communications Ltd, the app was no longer visible on Google Play Store whereas other apps including Paytm For Business, Paytm Money, Paytm Mall were still available. However, now all apps continue to be available on the Apple App Store as well as Google Play Store.

Paytm had received huge funding from fintech firm Ant Financials, which is an ally of China’s Alibaba group.

As per reports, Google decided to remove Paytm App as it allegedly violates the company’s new rules around online gambling. “We don’t allow online casinos (or) support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. It includes if the app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money (or) cash prizes,” Google said in a statement.

Paytm put out a tweet to assure its customers that their money is safe. It said: “Dear Paytm’ers, Paytm Android app is temporarily unavailable on Google’s Play Store for new downloads or updates. It will be back very soon. All your money is completely safe, and you can continue to enjoy your Paytm app as normal.”

Paytm App vanished hours after Suzanne Frey, Vice President of Google’s Product, Android Security and Privacy, shared the guidelines on a blog. “We don’t allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. This includes if an app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies.”

“We have these policies to protect users from potential harm. When an app violates these policies, we notify the developer of the violation and remove the app from Google Play until the developer brings the app into compliance. And in the case where there are repeated policy violations, we may take more serious action which may include terminating Google Play Developer accounts. Our policies are applied and enforced on all developers consistently,” she wrote in the blog.
