MHA: No Chinese infiltration in the last six months

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that there has been no infiltration along the Indo-China border during the last six months.

In a written reply, Minister of State (Mos) for Home Nityanand Rai said that “no infiltration has been reported along the Indo-China border during the last six months”. The response was in reply to an unstarred question by BJP MP Dr Anil Agrawal.

While Rai refrained from using the term infiltration or incursion in his speech, he however put on record that the Chinese PLA troops had dishonoured the 1993-1996 agreement between the two countries. He then outlined the transgression by Chinese.

Rai, in his written reply, also said that the government “has adopted a multi-pronged approach to contain cross border infiltration, which inter-alia include multi-tiered deployment along the International border/ Line of Control, improved intelligence and operational coordination, border fencing, deploying technological solutions and taking
pro-active action against infiltrators”.

An MHA official meanwhile clarified that infiltration is not the same as “transgression” or “incursion” which is a common parlance for the Military action at Line of Actual Control (LAC). Infiltration is used for terrorist crossing from Line Of Control (LoC), hence it is incorrect to say there was any infiltration.

Incidentally, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had spelt out several friction areas in eastern Ladakh including Gogra, Kongka La and North and South Banks of the Pangong Lake during his statement in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Rai meanwhile also said that the number of cases of attempted infiltration along Indo-Pakistan border during the last six months has continued. From February to July, 47 infiltration attempts have been made.
