Fact Check: Old video of cars being vandalized in Switzerland falsely linked to the recent Sweden riots

Following violent clashes in Sweden, a video of cars being vandalized is being shared widely on social media with a claim that the video was filmed in Sweden recently.

NewsMobile fact checked the video and found the claim to be false.

We extracted keyframes of the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. The search let us to the same video, uploaded on YouTube on May 20, 2018. The video title read: Basel (left) attacked Zurich in cars

The same video was shared by multiple YouTube channels with a similar title. The videos can be seen here and here.

Taking a cue from the above, we ran a keyword search and found several local reports from 2018.

According to reports, clashes broke out in Birsstrasse, Basel in Switzerland on May 19, 2018, following a championship match between Basel and Lucerne football clubs. The reports can be seen here and here.

Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that the post in circulation is false as the video is old and has no relation to the recent clashes in Sweden.
