From the big screen to streaming platforms: How Bobby Deol has reinvented himself

Bobby Deol is making a comeback, not on the big screen which is seeing a drought but on a streaming platform which is the in-thing ever since the pandemic induced lockdown started. Two of his web-based shows are being released within a span of two weeks. Bobby, who has stayed off-screen for long, now seems to be reinventing himself by trying something new.

On August 21, his film ‘Class of ’83’ released on Netflix. The 51-year-old actor had earlier revealed the release on Twitter while sharing a poster featuring himself as a policeman. In Class Of ’83, Bobby plays the role of a dedicated policeman turned police instructor Vijay Singh. In the movie, his trainees find themselves confused about some concepts such as honour and devotion. “It’s not which side you are fighting for, it’s what you are fighting against,” Bobby Deol wrote in the caption of the post.

A week after the release of Class of ’83, Bobby’s second web series, Aashram was released on August 28. The series includes nine episodes, which are centered around the blind faith people have in self-styled godmen. The role of the ‘Baba’ picturised in the series is played by Bobby Deol.

Looking at his recent releases, it is evident that Bobby is experimenting with new roles. Earlier, Bobby has gone for tried and tested formulas in the film industry, be it comedy or romance.

Deol made his Bollywood debut as a child artist in the 1977 movie ‘Dharam Veer.’ Here is a lookback at his successful movies of yesteryears.
