Netizens incensed as videos of Wuhan water park party flood internet

Videos of thousands of people attending a party at a water park in Wuhan are going viral on social media. This comes when most of the world is battling the brutal coronavirus pandemic, when people of Wuhan, where coronavirus originated, seemed to have moved on to a life of normalcy.

Reports say the Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park was filled with the people as the city reopens after 76 days of lockdown. The water park reopened in June and female visitors were being offered a 50% discount on tickets, hence a lot of visitors were present in the party with live DJ that was planned on Sunday, August 16. This was after the park had capped attendance at 50 percent of normal capacity.

The videos created a storm on social media with netizens questioning how social distancing norms were done away with. Images show revellers with no masks and not maintaining social distancing. The party goers had donned life jackets, but none of them can be seen wearing face masks.
Large social gatherings don’t seem to be alarming for people in Wuhan after seeing the first case of coronavirus last year. There has been no new domestically transmitted case officially reported in Hubei province, where Wuhan is the capital.
Not just this, the Hubei government has also been offering free entry to 400 tourist sites across the province to boost the crippled economy.
