After a gap of 4 months residents of Chennai can now take a flight to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. Within the air bubble with the UAE, Indigo and Goair are flying from Chennai to these destinations and Spicejet is flying from Madurai.
Though these flights are not run daily, this is help release some of the pent up demand as everybody is not able to get on an Air India Vande Bharat flight back home.
The state government has waived the requirement of seven days of international quarantine for international travelers who arrive at Chennai airport with a COVID-19 negative report. Those holding negative test report will have to undergo a test at arrival and can proceed for home quarantine if the test is negative.
More flights may be added by UAE carriers in the days to come. Till the end of this month, Indian carriers will be running about 7 flights. As the UAE prepares to host the IPL in September it has started issuing visas to Indians. But they have to undergo mandatory quarantine once they arrive there. So all cricket lovers must plan their IPL outing accordingly.
