On the run for six days following the brutal ambushing of eight policemen in Uttar Pradesh on July 3, dreaded history-sheeter Vikas Dubey, who is involved in more than 60 criminal cases already, has been finally arrested from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh while he was on his way to the Mahakal Temple to offer his prayers.
Nabbed by the cops, his brazenness was caught on camera when he shouted out aloud, “Main hoon Vikas Dubey, Kanpur wala.” From Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh to Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, it’s been a long 1200 km journey.
While questions are being raised as to how in times like these where free unhindered movement between territories is a premium, how did he manage to escape the watchful eyes of those manning check posts, here is a lowdown of his empire and his trusted aides who were involved in the ambush in Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur.
Vinay Tiwari and Krishna Kumar Sharma
Two Uttar Pradesh cops who are believed to have been hand in gloves with Vikas Dubey and his men. While Tiwari worked as the Station Officer of Chaubeypur Police Station, Sharma was the SI of Chaubeypur Police Station. They were insiders with UP Police who tried their best to cover up Dubey’s tracks in all investigations and even act as his informers and give him regular tip offs about possible police action. They had possibly tipped off Dubey about the July 3 plan of the UP Police to nab Dubey and in the process became culpable in the murder of eight of their colleagues in the ambush.
He was Vikas Dubey’s relative and responsible for his personal security. He is believed to be the mastermind of the July 3 ambush where eight policemen were killed and was one of the most trusted aides of the gangster privy to all his plans. He was neutralized in an encounter in Hamirpur on Wednesday.
Prabhat, Ankur Mishra and Shravan Mishra
The Special task Force of UP Police arrested them from Faridabad. Cops recovered 9 mm pistol from them which they had stolen earlier. Ankur and his father Shravan Mishra have been charged with providing shelter to Prabhat and Vikas Dubey in their Faridabad house.
Arrested by cops from Kanpur, he was a key member of Vikas Dubey’s gang. While he claims that he is a small time worker in a local factory dealing with watches, he is believed to played an instrumental role in the attack mounted on the cops on July 3. He has claimed complete innocence and denied any link with Dubey’s gang.
Prem Prakash and Atul Dubey
Prem Prakash is Vikas Dubey’s uncle and Atul is also a close relative. Both were killed during an encounter near Chaubeypur. A police rifle was also recovered from Atul’s possession.
Another trusted lieutenant of Vikas Dubey, Bahua was killed in an encounter at Etawah at around 4.30 am on Thursday. He had a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head. One pistol, a double-barrel gun and multiple cartridges were recovered.
