Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. This is his fourth test. He had shown symptoms such as high fever and body ache. Bolsonaro has previously been criticised for calling the virus just a ‘little flu’ and for not actioning strict social distancing guidelines in the country.
Brazil is at the second position, after the US, in terms of the highest positive cases globally.
But what has attracted the ire of the media and Twitterati alike, is the fact that right after announcing his positive coronavirus result in a national televised show, he stepped back slightly and removed his mask in front of the media persons gathered to interview him.
“It was positive.”

Another episode where his downplay of the criticality of the virus has come forward.
He removed his mask and said, “Just look at my face: I’m fine”.
With rising numbers not just in Brazil but globally too, social distancing and wearing a mask has been continuously highlighted by WHO and other medical authorities, as important to prevent the spread. But when he broke the protocol for these measures, the media was shocked by his recklessness.
In the interview that was broadcast on state-run TV Brasil, Bolsonaro said he began feeling ill on Sunday and has been taking hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug with unproven effectiveness against COVID-19. He said that he will continue with the HCQ treatment.
Brazil has more than 1.6 million confirmed cases of and almost 65,000 COVID related deaths. It has the world’s second-largest outbreak behind the United States.
At a time as crucial as this, Bolsonaro’s repeated flouting of administrative guidelines for coronavirus, is a huge face loss for Brazil, in the global community.
