Thieves in PPE kits rob jewellery store in Maharashtra

Thieves wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) kits broke into a jewellery shop in Satara district of Maharashtra and walked away with 780 gm gold, police said.

CCTV footage from the shop, located in Phaltan area, shows the thieves taking hold of gold jewellery from the showcases and cupboards within.

As per the footage of this 2-day old incident during coronavirus-induced lockdown, thieves were wearing caps, masks, plastic jackets and hand-gloves while taking the jewellery from the display cases.

A case has been registered at the Phaltan police station after a complaint by the jewellery shop owner. Reportedly, 78 tolas of gold has been robbed by the thieves.

The shop owner mentioned in his complaint that the thieves broke in through the shop wall.

Maharashtra is one of the worst affected states in India due to coronavirus. According to the data at the time of filing this report, the state has recorded a total of 2,11,987 Covid 19 cases, death toll stands at 9,037 and number of active cases are 87,696.
