Tamil Nadu government on Sunday announced that the probe in custodial deaths of the father-son duo in Sathankulam in Thoothukudi district will be transferred to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has taken a suo moto cognizance in the incident. The State Government has decided to transfer this case to CBI.

“We have already instructed the police to handle the general public and traders delicately. In case of a problem, a case should be filed before taking any action. We have also told the police to not disturb the general public unnecessarily,” CM said.
The two deceased, identified as 59-year-old Jayaraj and his 31-year-old J Bennix, were allegedly brutally beaten up by the cops after being arrested for allegedly violating lockdown by keeping their mobile phone shop in Tuticorin open beyond permitted hours last Friday (June 19).
After their condition deteriorated, the father-son were rushed to the government medical facility. Jayaraj died on June 22, whereas, his son succumbed to the injuries on June 23.
The alleged death of the father-son duo led to widespread outrage across the country.
