India’s total count of cases has risen to 158,333 after 6,566 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours, the Union health ministry said on Thursday.

2. Maharashtra remains to be the worst hit state with 56,948 cases and 1897 deaths.

Following Maharashtra, the southern state of Tamil Nadu has been severely hit by the coronavirus. In the state, 18,545 people infected with the virus while 133 people succumbed to the infection.

Meanwhile, the infections in Delhi also crossed the 15,000-mark with 792 new cases reported in last 24 hours. With this, the national capital leaves behind Gujarat in number of cases and took the third spot in worst-hit Indian states. The death toll in the national capital also rose to 303.

3. Domestic flight operations at Kolkata airport resume, reports PTI. The first flight from Kolkata left for Guhawati at 6.05 am with 40 passengers while 122 passengers arrived from New Delhi.

4. Nine migrants have died on board Shramik Express trains since Monday as the extreme heat adds to the misery of lakhs of people trying to reach home amid the nationwide lockdown.

5. The Delhi Police will file 12 chargesheets against 536 foreign nationals over the Tablighi Jamaat congregation, PTI reports.

6. Out of the 1,239 samples tested on Wednesday, 25 are positive, says King George’s Medical University in Lucknow.

7. Telangana allows all shops, except malls in Hyderabad, to open from today, reports News18.

8. Manipur’s tally rises to 44 after five more people test positive, reports PTI.

9. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal claims the worst for the economy is over, reports Hindustan Times. “…It would be better to be ready and start working for the post-Covid period, with good ideas, firm implementation plans, and to make India a world power,” he says at a meeting with industry and trade associations.

10. SpiceJet says two passengers on board its Ahmedabad-Guwahati via Delhi flight on Monday have tested positive, reports News18. “Covid tests were conducted at Guwahati after landing and the passengers were quarantined,” the airline adds. “The test reports came on May 27. The operating crew has been quarantined and SpiceJet is coordinating with government agencies in notifying other passengers who had travelled with them.”
