Fact Check: Old video of Sikhs distributing food at railway station shared as a recent one

Date:

A video of some Sikh men running after trains to hand over food to the passengers at a railway station is doing the rounds on social media.

As Indian Railways has started the Shramik Special trains, to ferry lakhs of migrants stranded in various parts of the country amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown, it has been claimed that the men are providing food to starving migrants who are boarding trains.

One of the best videos you will see today, which shows humanity exists in these difficult times. Sikhs in rural India run after a moving train filled with starving migrants to give them food.” – the caption read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found the claim to be false.

On putting the keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search along with keywords, ‘Sikh’, ‘train’, ‘serve’, we found a report by Navbharat Times dated November 14, 2019, featuring the same video.

The headline of the report read, ”No one in the world can do service like Sikhs’, this video is going viral’.

Former BJP MLA, Anil Sharma, shared the same video on his official Twitter handle on Guru Nanak Jayanti in 2019.

Though NewsMobile could not independently verify the origin of the video. But, the above information establishes the fact that the video in question is old as it was already on the internet much before the Shramik Special trains started in 2020.
