Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has accused the United States of America (USA) of pushing its relations with China to the brink of a cold war and said that a political virus had also affected the US which attacks China at every opportunity. He made these comments in a press conference after addressing the week long National People’s Congress.
“It has come to our attention that some political forces in the US are taking China-US relations hostage and pushing our two countries to the brink of a new cold war,” Yi said.

He also accused the US of lying with a political vendetta and said that China was ready to cooperate in a probe initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO).
However, he warned that the probe must be “free of political interference, based on science and led by the World Health Organization”.
Taking a swipe at the US, he said, “I call on the US to stop wasting time and stop wasting precious lives.”
“Aside from the devastation caused by the novel coronavirus, there is also a political virus spreading through the US. This political virus is the use of every opportunity to attack and smear China”, he added.
The US and China have been involved in a war of words in recent times over the origins of the virus and US President Donald Trump has been at the forefront of this.
It is not only the virus but also issues related to China’s crackdown on peaceful protests in Hong Kong and trade issues have led to the weakening of ties between the US and China.
