US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has warned China against impinging on the freedom and autonomy of Hong Kong. He warned that this will prompt the US to reconsider its stand on ‘One Country, two systems’ policy, and the very status of the territory.
These comments came in the backdrop of Chinese attempting to interfere in the working of American journalists in the territory.

“It has recently come to my attention that the Chinese government has threatened to interfere with the work of American Journalists in Hong Kong. These journalists are members of a free press, not propaganda cadres,” Pompeo said.
“Any decision impinging on Hong Kong’s autonomy and freedoms as guaranteed under the Sino-British Joint Declaration and the Basic Law would inevitably impact our assessment of ‘one country, two systems’ and the status of the territory,” he added.
In recent times, the US and China have expelled journalists from each other’s nations. The two nations are also involved in a war of words over the origin of the Sars-COV-2 virus.
Former US President Barack Obama has also criticized the present administration’s dealing of the virus. He said that those who are in power are clueless.
