COVID-19: Top 10 developments in India this Monday morning

India on Monday entered lockdown 4.0 as restrictions have been extended till May 31, but with considerable relaxations in non-containment zones.

Here are the top 10 developments in India this morning:

1. The Centre on Sunday extended the COVID-19 lockdown for two more weeks till May 31 with relaxations that are likely to completely open the economy with the operation of all markets, offices, industries and business along with plying of buses in all zones, barring containment.

2. States and Union Territories (UTs) have been given powers to delineate the Red, Green and Orange zones as per the Covid-19 situation and inter-state movement of passenger vehicles, buses have been allowed with mutual consent of states.

3. The movement of individuals shall remain strictly prohibited between 7 pm to 7 am, except for essential activities.

4.  Highest ever spike of 5,242 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hrs. India’s COVID-19 tally has risen to 96,169 while the death toll has gone up to 3,029.

5. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled the fifth and last tranche of the Rs 20 lakh crore COVID-19 economic package as part of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (Self-reliant India campaign)” on Sunday.

6. The doubling time of coronavirus infection in India has improved to 13.6 days in the last three days from 11.5 in the past 14 days, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday.

7. Maharashtra on Sunday recorded the highest single-day spike of 2,347 COVID-19 cases and 63 more deaths, including 38 from worst-hit Mumbai, taking the overall case count to 33,053 and the number of fatalities to 1,198, a Health official said.

8. The total number of cases of coronavirus in Delhi has reached 9755. The death toll rose to 149 in the city after the health department added 19 more on Sunday.

9. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said a detailed plan to ease restrictions in the national capital will be announced on Monday.

10. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla has written to Chief Secretaries of all states and UTs asking them to ensure compliance of new guidelines issued for the extended lockdown till 31st May and also reiterates not to dilute the guidelines.
