Fact Check: Old picture of parrots feeding on grain falsely linked to lockdown in India

Date:

picture of a flock of parrots, flocking on gunny bags, is being shared online with a claim that the parrots are feeding on the grain amid the ongoing national lockdown to contain COVID-19.

The caption of the picture read: “ऐसा नजारा फिर कभी नहीं मिलेगा जो #लाॅकडाउन में देखने को मिल रहा है ।”

(Translation- One cannot witness this scene again in life which is being witnessed during #lockdown.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the picture and found that the claim is fake.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search on the Russian search engine, Yandex, we found the same picture in a blog dated March 5, 2014, on NatureForver, a blogging website.

According to the blog, the picture was taken in a rice mill warehouse in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Though NewsMobile could not independently verify the origin of the picture, but, the above information establishes that the picture in question is old as it was already on the internet much before the lockdown came into effect in India.
