Fact Check: Retirement age of central government employees to be reduced to 50? Here’s the truth

As the world comes together to fight the pandemic, economies across the globe have taken a huge hit.

Amidst all this, an article by an online portal is making the rounds with a claim that the ‘Centre is likely to reduce retirement age to 50 in Coronavirus crisis’.

The story was shared extensively on social media.

Rajya Sabha MP, Subramanian Swamy, also mentioned this in his tweet dated April 26.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be false.

The Press Information Bureau in a post clarified that the government has made no such move. “The claim made within the report is false. Centre is neither planning nor discussing any such move, ” the post read.

Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh also rubbished the claim saying, “there is no such move to reduce retirement age nor has such a proposal been discussed or contemplated. While the entire world is praising PM Sh Narendra Modi for his proactive handling of #COVID pandemic, certain vested elements trying to underplay the good work done by Govt”.

The above information proves that the viral news is false.
