COVID-19 | PM Modi compliments India’s villages for implementing “do gaz ki doori” mantra

Complimenting the messaging of “do gaz ki doori” or “a distance of two yards” in India’s villages, Prime Minister Narendra Modi—in an interaction with village heads from across India via video-conferencing on Panchayati Raj Day— said that India’s villages have shown the way to urban centres when it comes to dealing with lockdown and social distancing.

Apprising the village heads about the COVID-19 menace and advocating the concept of social distancing, the PM also launched the e-GramSwaraj Portal and a mobile App for enhanced coordination of developmental work being carried out in the villages. The system is aimed at ensuring transparency in communication between different mediums in the entire process.

The PM said that the biggest lesson the pandemic has taught India is to become self-reliant. “The biggest lesson COVID-19 has taught us is to become self-reliant,” PM Modi said and urged all the villages to be self-reliant for their basic needs too.

While admitting, that even though the challenges thrown at the country because of Coronavirus are huge, he also said that there are lessons to learn from it too.
Applauding people for observing the lockdown rules, the prime minister said it is because of them, that the entire world is today recognizing India’s proactive approach in handling the crisis.
He also emphasised that even though the challenges are many, the people of India are taking them on and working to find solutions.
