Fact Check: Old video being shared with false ‘Ram Navami celebration during COVID-19 lockdown’ claim

Date:

A purported video of Ramnavami celebrations in Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh is being shared online with a claim that the people celebrated the festival on April 2, 2020, even as the nationwide lockdown because of COVID-19 was in place.

“Ramnavmi celebrations in Akbarpur, UP, today… Ram and Ramanavami are an anti-COVID combination… 😳🙄” the text on the post read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found that it is old.

On putting the keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search, we found that the same video was shared by people on Facebook back in 2019.

NewsMobile independently couldn’t verify the origin of the video but it is abundantly clear that the video was in circulation way before the nationwide lockdown due to Covid-19 was even announced.

Hence, it is clear that the claim attached to the video is false and misleading.
