COVID-19: Tamil Nadu to provide herbal drink to people to boost immunity; AP finds testing kits from South Korea satisfactory

With over 1,600 cases of Covid-19, Tamil Nadu continues to remain the worst affected state in southern part of the country.

Let’s take a look at all that’s been making news down South:

1. As part of the ‘Aaroghyam’ campaign, the Tamil Nadu government will provide a drink which is of herbal concoction to over 1 lakh people in the state to boost immunity levels. This is said to boost the immunity of individuals.

2. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has said that testing kits procured from South Korea are satisfactory, after he conducted a review meeting of the COVID-19 situation. The state government has also decided to increase the number of beds available at the government hospitals across the state.

3. Karnataka has become the first state in the region to ease the lockdown restrictions. It was the first day of return to some form of normalcy as those who are self-employed, shops selling essential items and 50 percent of IT staff were permitted to return to work. However, public transport remained closed in Bengaluru.

4. All legislators and employees at the Puducherry Assembly complex were checked for COVID-19. A camp organized by the Health Department saw all, including the Chief Minister, participate in it. One of the legislators even prostrated before a doctor to thank him for the yeoman service being extended.

5. One of the slums in the Hongasandra municipal ward has been completely sealed off after one of the migrant labourers working with the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation, tested positive for the virus.

6. With over 80 fresh cases being reported in a single day, Andhra Pradesh has reported its largest surge in recent times.

7. Karnataka will soon start testing process using machines meant to detect TB. The Cartridge based nucleic acid amplification test will be used to detect COVID-19.

8. The Kerala government employees have decided to take a six-day salary cut for the next five months. The amount collected will be used towards expenditure related to battling COVID-19.

9. District Collectors in Telangana will soon be asked to take up the task of ‘Contact tracing’. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, in a letter to officers, has asked this to be done as an immediate priority to contain the spread of the virus.

10. Venu Health care centre in Bengaluru has lost its licence for its failure to report suspected COVID-19 cases to the state government.
