Fact Check: Manoj Tiwari did not violate the lockdown; here’s the truth behind this video

Amid the nationwide lockdown due to Coronavirus, a video of Delhi BJP Chief, Manoj Tiwari has surfaced on the internet in which he can be seen distributing masks while he is surrounded by a mob. It is being claimed that Tiwari was violating the lockdown norms and disobeying social distancing.

The caption of the video uploaded on a Facebook page Ilyas Sharafuddin Slave of Allah read: “BJP Ka Delhi Chief Manoj Tiwari Lockdown Todte Huwe Coronavirus Phailate Huwe…Is Per FIR Karo…ILYAS SHARAFUDDIN SLAVE OF ALLAH”

At the time of filing this report, the above video was shared over 35,000 times.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above video and found that it is an OLD video.

On putting the keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search, we came across several reports dated March 17, 2020, according to which Tiwari had distributed masks and sanitizers to the people and cops amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

On digging further, we found the extended version of the same video which was posted on Twitter by @ManojTiwariOffc on March 17, 2020.

In conclusion, the above information establishes the fact that the video in circulation is from March 17, 2020, while the nationwide lockdown began from March 25, 2020. Hence, Manoj Tiwari did not violate the lockdown.
