The capital city witnessed ugly scenes on Saturday evening when three housing shelters housing about 150 people in the Yamuna Pushta area went up in flames. Authorities have pointed towards a possible row towards food distribution and quality leading towards this criminal act.
Prime facie, it is believed that this was a struggle between the homeless, people availing free food and migrant laborers being housed as part of the national lockdown.

The problem appears to have begun when a civil defence volunteer on Friday was attacked and sustained knife injuries during a food distribution process.
Many of the individuals were chased for not following the social distancing norms. In the process, they jumped into the Yamuna river. They were saved.
However, on Saturday evening, trouble began at 6 PM when a body was discovered in the river. Following this the local inmates set the shelter home on fire. The situation was brought under control immediately by the Police and Fire authorities.
According to other sources, the issue of food distribution and anxiety following the lack of communication between the government and inmates has led to a survival instinct of those who were indulging in anti-social behaviour.
The Delhi Police has arrested a few individuals and will be charging them under the relevant sections of the IPC.
