Date:

The 21-day nationwide lockdown that was announced by PM Modi to fight coronavirus is supposed to come to an end on April 14.

As the deadline approaches, several articles and posts have started making rounds on social media claiming that the Railway has announced certain protocols regarding travelling post lockdown.

Here’s the link to the above article.

The article lists out several changes that are being proposed by the Railways. Some of them are:

  • The passenger will be required to reach the stations 4 hours before the journey begins.
  • Passenger will have to provide the railways with their health status 12 hours before travel.
  • Any passengers with COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed to travel.
  • Only non-AC coaches may be available for travel, so as to curb the spread of the virus.
  • Passengers must pass through a special tunnel for disinfection.
  • The side berth in sleeper coaches will be kept vacant to ensure social distancing.

The story was also picked up by various other media websites.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the posts and found that these claims are not true.

We checked the website and the social media account of the Indian Railways to verify the news and found a tweet by the Ministry of Railways dated April 9, 2020.

In the tweet, the ministry has denied issuing any protocol regarding passenger travel during the post lockdown period.

The tweet also states that the ministry is yet to make any decisions regarding post lockdown travels.

The above information proves that the articles and posts in circulation are misleading.
